Don't forget when signing up for your first tournament that there is No-Gi and Gi competitions that you can sign up for. Gi tournaments are normal for those new to BJJ, it's much easier to grab on to something than it is to get your hooks when you start at the beginning for no-gi tournaments . Keep your eyes on the prize, but the simple fact that you can grab onto threads in a gi event makes for a better event for events and for practitioners that probably have never went head to head in a no gi event.
